Wine grape colors vary from light yellow, to green to several shades of red.

The method of fermentation of grapes controls the color, aroma, dryness, alcohol content and the taste of wines. Alcohol content can range from 5 to 15 percent.

If the wine grape’s sugar is completely fermented into alcohol, it is considered dry. Otherwise, if some of the wine grapes sugar remains, it is considered a sweet wine.

The four main wine types are aromatic wines, fortified wines, sparkling wines and table wines with colors that can be pink, red, rose or white.

The type of wine grape and the skin usage determines color. For example, with white wine, only the juice is used. Once fermentation begins, the skins can be removed thus producing a rose colored wine. If the whole wine grape is used, then red wine is produced.

Aromatic wines, like sangrias, can include fruits, flowers or other plants. Fortified wines have additional alcohol or brandy added to them, thus rendering an alcohol content of 15 to 35%.

Sparkling wines are bubbly wines that include champagne, created by additional fermentation within their bottles. Table wines can be white, rose or red.

Dessert wines can be fortified wines, like Sherry and Port or they can be ice wines. They differ more so than other wine types in color, alcohol content, sweetness and taste.
